Defenseman Marc Staal was informed Thursday that he has been named as the Rangers nominee for the Masterton Trophy, which is awarded to the NHL player who best explifies perseverance and dedication to the sport of hockey. One player is nominated from each team in the league each season and one is eventually chosen as the recipient.
Four Rangers have won the award---Jean Ratelle in 1970-71, Rod Gilbert in 1975-76, Anders Hedberg in 1984-85, and Adam Graves in 2000-01.
Following Thursday's morning skate in Carolina Staal met with reporters to discuss how honored he is to be nominated for this prestigious award. He also discussed having dinner with his three bothers Wednesday night, as well as about his youngest brother Jared's NHL debut this evening.
