Coming of Age

John Tortorella spoke after Saturday's Game 7 victory about the "tremendous experience" these playoffs---and pair of Game Sevens---have been already for the younger players on the Rangers roster. When you see Michael Del Zotto score the game-winning goal and produce two points in Game 7, and Carl Hagelin notch a pair of assists in a thoroughly tenacious performance, while Artem Anisimov, Derek Stepan, Ryan McDonagh, and other young Blueshirts also play huge roles in the 2-1 win, do you get the feeling that these players--and this team---are coming of age in front of our eyes?

Youth is definitely coming through this postseason. As well as the vets...big team effort.

The NYR are built around youth but probably didn't expect them to excell this quickly with the core of young talent now the future looks awesome and the NHL beware the NYR are team to reckon with now and into the future!

All the young guns are emptying the tank for every game right at the perfect moment. I'm proud of the way the boys play hard, make a mistake( which winds whomever in torts chateau bow wow)(shout out to J D FOR THAT one)then come back to playing the system as well as their instinctive natural abilities. Here we Go dogfaces!!! one more series before we get to the one we want. LGR!!!!!

Such a pleasure watching Hagelin's growth through out the season and post-season. He has got some pair of legs.

I think DZ learned a lot from last year when thing weren't going his way. This season he has been one of the most consistent players for us. And with the other guys like Stepan, Mc Donagh, Hagelin and of course the newest star to be Kreider I think we can look forward to a bright future for our Blueshirts.

McD was the biggest consistent difference maker, DZ stepped up on offense when we needed it most, and Hags showed just why we missed him so much when he was suspended for three games last series.

I love watching the younger guys play. when Cally first came up I told myself "This guy will be captain one day" His hard work is such a boost for this team.

Of course. Watching these guys "grow up" in front of our eyes is half the fun. But they are still young. I think sometimes we take them for granted because of the quick success (winning the conference). Torts deserves a lot of credit on how he brings them along. I just wish he wouldn't give the quick benching when mistakes are made.

Mistakes matter, Harry. The younger a player is when he learns that, the better hockey player he will become. LGR!!!

When watching the game live, the enormity of the achievement is hard to process. But I just watched the 3rd period again. DZ scores to make it 2-0. Then Caps get a flukey one less than a minute after, tension mounts. Then Rusty knocks one out of the rink and the Caps get a PP. More tension. In the midst of the most pressure these guys may have experienced in their careers, they didn't give up a scoring chance in the final 9 minutes of that game, not one! Now, I know it may be sacrilege to compare events this way, but when we won the cupo in '94, we barely hung on in that one - I still have nightmares about Nathan LaFayette clanking it off the post! They way they shut down that team of that offensive talent says to me that as far as coming of age is concerned - sorry Sam Rosen - "The waiting is over!" Bring on the Devils! We're ready.

Youth is our future and we should stay the course. I would rather loose with youth and build out future than hire mercenaries of older players with short lifespans. When Miller, Bourque, Mclirath, Erixon and Fasth come up we will be even better with younger players. Kreider is a given now!!! Let's Go Boys, get a win Monday night!!!

Yes very much .That is way I was glad we did not make atrde at the dead line and break up this team. Each player has a role and it gels in game like this .

I couldn't agree more. I think one of the biggest positives for our team is how tight-knit this group is. Bringing in someone new and sending someone so close away would almost certainly have been a disaster.

I also agree - every player plays a part, and the chemistry within this group really shows. A perfect blend of mostly youth, enough vets to provide leadership and a coach who pushes the right buttons. No more washed-up hired guns - it has been fun to watch this team grow.

Definitely! These guys have improved with every game, and we have to give Torts a lot of the credit. He has brought these young players along by playing them in situations where they were most likely to succeed, and not playing them in situations where they would be more likely to fail.

Well hey man, your guys have a bright future with such a talented goaltender. Anderson was not good, he was great in that series. That being said I am so impressed with the way we have been playing. we defeated two teams with great goaltenders. I love the Tort system of defense. a little bit more scoring would be nice but i will be happy just so long as our guys get the job done. This is our year!

Everyone was so concerned about a killer instinct, not winning even numbered games/closing them out in 6 or getting the 2 goal lead. This team is a thoroughbred that wins by a nose. They'll probably win the Stanley Cup by a nose. Remember, they are young kids going through this for the first time. After they win this year they'll probably blow teams out for years to come

Can't ignore what a 7th game means to the players themselves, so yes. The 1st two games will be tougher due to the prior series both going 7 so having home ice will be huge. Torts will try & succeed in having them as close to ready in 1 day as possible. The garden will shake rattle & roll tomorrow for the Rangers & cry out in deafening fashion against the evil from NJ... Would have hoped to have gotten them back sooner (would have helped I believe) Not sure unless we get an injury heaven forbid how much of an impact they can make being away so long.

Don't know. Zucc is practicing, but I'm not sure Torts would play him, even if he was 100%. He generally doesn't change the lineup when we're doing well.
