While it feels like the 2013-14 season just concluded, Rangers fans can already begin looking ahead to next season, as the team has announced it will open the home portion of the 2014-15 season against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Oct. 12 at Madison Square Garden.
This marks the third time since the 2010-11 season the Rangers will open up with their Original Six rival at the Garden, with the previous two coming in 2010 and 2011.
Last season, the Blueshirts went 2-0-1 against the Maple Leafs, with a 2-1 shootout win on Dec. 23 in New York, followed by a dominating 7-1 victory in Toronto on Jan. 4 at the Air Canada Center. The Rangers picked up a point in a 3-2 overtime loss at home on March 5.
The Dec. 23 win was highlighted by a J.T. Miller goal in the third period and two shootout goals by Mats Zuccarello and Derek Stepan. Cam Talbot made the start and walked away with his eighth victory of the season.
The second win saw six different players find the back of the net, none more pretty than Dominic Moore’s end-to-end rush late in the second period that gave the Rangers a 5-0 win. Talbot was the man in net yet again, making 26 saves for his ninth win of the year.
The full regular season schedule is expected to be released on Sunday.
