Henrik Lundqvist picked up his first NHL win on Oct. 13, 2005 in a 20-save, 4-1 win over future rival Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils at Madison Square Garden.
“It felt really good,” Lundqvist said after the win. “I felt so happy to get that first win.”
The Blueshirts’ received goals from Martin Rucinsky, Ville Nieminen, Blair Betts and Jaromir Jagr in the victory.
Since that first victory, Lundqvist has gone 28-14-6 with a career-best seven shutouts. Lundqvist’s 29 wins against the Devils are tied with the Islanders for the most victories against any team.
