For a span of about 40 seconds late in the second period at Yankee Stadium, the Islanders led the Rangers, 1-0. Directly following the Islanders' tally, Rangers' coach Alain Vigneault sent out the trio of Mats Zuccarello, Derick Brassard and Benoit Pouliot to try and recapture momentum heading into the third period. The three hard-working forwards got the puck deep into the Islanders' zone and went to work. Behind the net, Brassard battled for the puck and fired it back at Evgeni Nabokov. The pass hit Pouliot in the chest, who ultimately was able to put it in the back of the net to knot the score. The goal would prove to be a huge turning point, as the Rangers would go on to win the game 2-1.
On Friday night, Brassard was able to come up big again and provided the game-winning-goal Friday night at the Garden. With a delayed penalty against the Islanders, Brassard joined the rush up the ice and was hit with a cross-ice pass and buried it to give the Blueshirts the 2-1 lead, which they'd later extend to 4-1 in the victory.
Brassard has enjoyed a night bump in production over the last two weeks, picking up five points in his last five games, including points in three straight.
