After going pointless in the first two games of the week, Derek Stepan exploded over the weekend. On Saturday afternoon against Ottawa, Stepan assisted on Brad Richards’ power-play goal mid-way through the first period, picked up another helper on a gorgeous pass to Rick Nash off the glass and scored on a turnover from Erik Karlsson in the second period, giving him three points on the afternoon in the team's 4-1 win.
When the Rangers returned to action Sunday night against the Washington Capitals, Stepan showed that he was not finished. Playing the point on a Rangers’ power-play near the end of the first period, Stepan showed patience while adjusting his shooting angle and burying a wrist shot. Although the goal came seconds after the Capitals’ penalty had expired, Stepan, for the second game in a row, scored the important third goal to put the Rangers up 3-0. The team again cruised to a 4-1 victory.
