Stalwart defenseman Ryan McDonagh forged his presence on the ice with his solid play on the blueline. In addition to his key defensive role, he contributed on the score sheet with four assists in the four games. With a pair of helpers against Buffalo, McDonagh continued to show improvement in his offensive game, including his gorgeous pass from the Rangers' zone to Derek Stepan at center ice, who then redirected the puck onto the stick of Rick Nash who scored.
On Saturday, McDonagh was patient with the puck in the dying seconds, as he held it for a shooting lane. His shot hit traffic in front, but Chris Kreider was there to chip it past Martin Brodeur to tie the game, 3-3, and send it to overtime.
McDonagh had set a new career-high with points in six straight games, but it was snapped Sunday night against the Washington Capitals.
