MATT: There were some reports yesterday that hinted at John Moore possibly being a healthy scratch for last night's game, and if there was a possibility, the right decision to leave him in was obviously made, as the defenseman picked up the game-winning goal on a beautiful wrist shot just seconds after Chris Kreider gave the Rangers the lead. I thought Moore played a strong game, but the reason he's here is for the goal. Alain Vigneault stresses that he needs the offense to contribute to the offense, and what better way than one scoring the game-winner in a game the Rangers absolutely needed.
JIM: Well I had John Moore as my Third Star, so we are not going to agree on Unsung Hero. Instead I am going with the other Moore, Dominic Moore. The veteran center nearly scored in the first period---being credited with three shots as he jammed away at the puck while crashing Kari Lehtonen's crease---and he just missed on a shorthanded scoring chance later in the game. However it was his battle level and his work on the penalty kill that won me over Thursday night. Dom played 14:27 of gritty hard-nosed hockey, and was quietly one of the keys to the Rangers turning this game in their favor, even without recording a point.
