Bill Cook — Nov. 16, 1926 vs Montreal Maroons

Back to where it all began. On Nov. 16, 1926, the New York Rangers played their first ever NHL game and forward Bill Cook scored the franchise's first goal, which would hold up to be the game winner over the now defunct Montreal Maroons.

Cook is full of Rangers firsts. In addition to scoring the franchise’s first goal, he is also the first player drafted by the Rangers, as well as the franchise’s first captain. He spent his entire 11-year career with the organization.
