Walt Poddubny began his Ranger career in 1986-87 with a spectacular 40 goals, 47 assists and 87 points, all of which were good enough to lead the Blueshirts and set personal career-bests.

Entering his second season in New York, Poddubny got off to just the start he was looking for. The Thunder Bay, ONT.-native exploded with two goals and two assists against the Mario Lemieux-led Pittsburgh Penguins.  His offensive prowess would continue all season, as he once again would eclipse his career-high in assists with 50 and points with 88.

Poddubny’s four-point opening game performance has not been matched or surpassed since.
