The Rangers will play their final pre-season game Friday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, taking on the Los Angeles Kings, and Henrik Lundqvist will start in goal---24 hours after allowing five goals on 17 shots while playing 40 minutes against the Canucks in Vancouver.
Should the Kings start Jonathan Quick in goal, tonight's contest would feature two of the top goaltenders (photo) in the National Hockey League going head to head--a matchup worthy of the bright lights of the city which is hosting this contest. These two teams, and elite netminders, will see each other again very soon, when the Kings host the Rangers for real on October 7th out in LA---what will be the Blueshirts second regular season game.
It would not be surprising to see Martin Biron get some action this evening, as well, though head coach Alain Vigneault has not stated whether or not he plans to work the back up goalie into the game.
Although veterans Rick Nash, Brad Richards, Brian Boyle, and Benoit Pouliot are all in the Rangers' lineup tonight, there will be a healthy dose of youngsters playing, too, looking to make a strong final impression on Vigneault and his staff before the roster is finalized this weekend.
J.T. Miller, Chris Kreider, Jesper Fast, Marek Hrivik, and Oscar Lindberg will all dress for this evening's contest, as will Darroll Powe, Arron Asham, and Brandon Mashinter---to round out the twelve forwards. On defense Michael Del Zotto will pair with Stu Bickel, John Moore and Anton Stralman will partner for a second straight night, and Justin Falk pairs with rookie Conor Allen.
It will be interesting to see if any one of Falk, Bickel, or Allen stand out this evening as those three battle for the final one or two spots on the defense corps.
