The New Jersey Devils are in the midst of a transition to say the least. After missing the playoffs for the second time in three seasons — something they had done just once in the 20 seasons prior — New Jersey is struggling to find its identity while coping with the loss of a second super star in as many summers.
Stalwarts Martin Brodeur, Patrick Elias and Bryce Salvador remain in the mix for New Jersey, but all three are in the later stages of their careers, (Brodeur, 41, is entering the final year of his contract, and possibly his career), leaving the Devils with more questions than answers.
After a disappointing season last year — following a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2012 — New Jersey could be looking at another difficult season in what could be the start of a new era for the red and black.
