Glen Sather, the Rangers President and General Manager, is known to deliver this message---or a variation thereof---on a regular basis: "We are always trying to improve the team. That never changes. We are never done looking at ways to get better". Whether it's at the start of the season, after the trade deadline or the frenzy of summer free agency, or even the slow dog days of August, Sather and the Rangers front office are studying any and every possibility in making the Rangers a better team, both in the present and in the future.
This August those possibilities COULD include entering into contract extension negotiations with one or more of the following 2014 unrestricted free agents Henrik Lundqvist, Ryan Callahan, and Dan Girardi, as well as swinging a trade or inking another free agent to join newcomers Dominic Moore, Benoit Pouliot, Danny Kristo, Justin Falk, and Aaron Johnson. Or maybe Sather and his staff decide to sit tight and not do any of the above. But just because August is the quietest of months in the NHL, does not mean the Rangers are not considering all of their options every day. You may be on vacation. It doesn't mean the organization is.
