Last Season’s Matchups
A season ago, the Blueshirts went a perfect 3-0 against Carolina, outscoring the Hurricanes 10-5 in the process.
The teams faced off for the first time on March 18 at Madison Square Garden, when rookie J.T. Miller scored in a shootout to give the Rangers the 2-1 win, snapping a three-game losing streak in the process.
Henrik Lundqvist was the story in Game 2 of the season series in Raleigh on April 6, when he finished with a season-high 48 saves in the team’s 4-1 win. The 48 saves were the most he’d made in a game since April 11, 2010 when he posted 46 against the Flyers. Derek Stepan notched a goal and an assist, which extended his point streak to four games. Rick Nash, Ryan Callahan and Brian Boyle also picked up goals.
The Rangers entered their final meeting with the Hurricanes on April 25 at PNC Arena with a chance to clinch a playoff spot, and did just that. Brad Richards tied the game late in the third period on the power play, and Callahan’s wrist shot beat goaltender Dan Ellis at 2:55 of overtime to send the Rangers into the postseason for the seventh time in eight years.
All-time, the Rangers are 62-48-7-2 against the Hurricanes/ Hartford Whalers.
