On the same day that restricted free agent Carl Hagelin agreed to terms with the Rangers, fellow RFA Justin Falk followed suit, agreeing to terms with the club on Wednesday. Those two contract agreements join that of Ryan McDonagh earlier in the week, as the Rangers work diligently to re-sign their own free agents.
Acquired in a draft-day trade with Minnesota two Sundays ago, the 24 year-old Falk helps to provide depth on the Rangers blueline in the coming season. At 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds, Falk will provide a hulking presence on the Rangers defensive corps, something he previously did for the Wild in 108 NHL games.
The Rangers now have defensemen McDonagh, Falk, Dan Girardi, Marc Staal, Michael Del Zotto, John Moore, Anton Stralman, and Aaron Johnson all under contract for the 2013-14 season.
Last year with the Wild Falk appeared in 36 games and recorded 40 penalty minutes and three assists. The year before he accumulated 54 penalty minutes and nine points (1-8-9) in 47 games with Minnesota.
