Perhaps Derick Brassard's most important goal as a Ranger came in Game Six of the playoff quarterfinals against the Washington Capitals. With the Blueshirts facing elimination, trailing 3-2 in the series, Brassard scored the only goal of the game as the Rangers survived 1-0. It came 9:39 into the second period, with the fans shouting at the open Brassard to shoot, the young center hesitated and then ripped a slap shot that deflected off Caps defenseman Steve Oleksy and past goalie Braden Holtby, with Rick Nash setting the big screen in front.
