Though the Rangers already had a 3-0 lead after two periods of play in Game 7 of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinals series with the Capitals, the team was expecting one final major surge from Washington to start the third period. Callahan muted that quite quickly when he scored a gorgeous unassisted goal against Braden Holtby just 13 seconds into the final period of play, effectively ending the series and the Capitals' season. The goal was Callahan's first of the playoffs and could not have come at a more opportune time.
