In the 1940 Stanley Cup Finals, Bryan Hextall helped the New York Rangers win their third Stanley Cup with an overtime goal in Game 6 of the best-of-seven series against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The goal was his fourth of the playoffs, and he finished tied for second with seven total points in the eight-game postseason.

This would be Hextall's first and only Stanley Cup. He finished his NHL career in 1948, appearing in 449 games, all with the Blueshirts. He scored 187 goals and 362 points and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1969.
