Score: 3-2 Capitals in Overtime
The Rangers entered their final meeting with Washington having won two of their last three games, while the Capitals had won three of four games and were beginning to find their footing after a poor first half of the season.
Just as in the first two meetings, the Capitals scored the first goal of the contests within the first eight minutes of the game. This time it was Nicklas Backstrom beating Lundqvist on the power play at 7:54 of the first period.
Unlike the prevoius two games, though, the Capitals added to their lead when Alex Ovechkin deflected a point shot by Lundqvist.
The Rangers, though, stormed back before the end of the period with goals from Arron Asham -- who made his return to the lineup after more than a month away due to injury -- and Stepan to knot the game, 2-2.
The game remained scoreless through regulation and overtime before Backstrom beat Lundqvist in the shootout for the victory.
The loss bumped the Rangers from the top-eight, while the win brought the Capitals into a tie for 11th place.
