Players To Watch

Rangers-Marc Staal: This is not to suggest at all that Marc Staal has been cleared to return to the lineup from his right eye injury yet, but wouldn't it be a very cool thing to see all four Staal brothers on the ice Thursday night in Carolina? Marc has already missed the first two games against the Hurricanes this season because of his eye injury, missing out on the chance of facing brothers Eric and Jordan---what would have been the first time three Staal brothers were playing in the same NHL game. Now Carolina has promoted Jared Staal from the minor leagues and he will make his NHL debut against the Rangers, meaning if Marc were healthy it would the first opportunity for all for Staal brothers to play in the same NHL game. As for Marc's health, he has continued to practice with the Rangers, now wearing a tinted visor to help with the glare of arena lights in his still-blurry right eye. The Rangers have not said when Marc might be ready for game action.

Hurricanes-Jared Staal: The youngest of the four Staal brothers, 22 year-old Jared was recalled from the minor leagues Wednesday and will make his NHL debut against the Rangers on Thursday. A former second round pick of the Coyotes, Staal is a rugged third/fourth-line type who scored four goals and totaled seven points in 52 games this season with the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL. Jared stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 214 pounds. Head coach Kirk Muller said on Wednesday that Jared could very well start the game on a line centered by brother Jordan.
