Upon arriving in Montreal Friday afternoon the Rangers announced that they had agreed to terms on a contract with free agent defenseman Conor Allen. The 23 year-old will report to the Rangers AHL affiliate, Connecticut Whale.
The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Allen just finished up his third season playing at UMASS-Amherst, totaling 19 points (5-14-19) and 53 penalty minutes in 33 games. He led all team defensemen in assists and points, and led the entire team with 57 blocked shots. Allen also ranked second in penalty minutes, and tied for fourth in points.
In three seasons at UMASS-Amherst, which plays in the highly competitive Hockey East Conference, Allen appeared in 99 games and had 110 penalty minutes. He finished his career with 14 goals, 25 assists, and 39 points. Allen was also a two-time Hockey East All-Academic Team honoree.
An Illinois native, Allen played in the USHL prior to attending college in 2009-10, going 7-8-15 with 69 penalty minutes in 48 games with Sioux Falls.
