It had been a long time coming for Derek Stepan, who entered play Saturday against the Lightning without a goal in the first seven games of the 2013 season, and not having found the back of the net since Game Six of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against Ottawa last spring. But when Stepan finally did score Saturday, it was a hugely important goal. With the Rangers trailing 1-0 on the road to the top team in the East, Stepan swatted a loose puck past Mathieu Garon---after hard work by his linemates Taylor Pyatt and Carl Hagelin. That goal midway through the second period set the stage for the Rangers 3-2 victory.
