Rangers: Team captain Ryan Callahan has 199 career points, one shy of the 200-point milestone, while third-year teammate Derek Stepan is also on the verge of a milestone as he is one point shy of 100 in his career. So which Blueshirt will achieve his milestone first? So far in four games this season Stepan has recorded three points---all assists, while Callahan has one, a 5-on-3 power play goal scored last Sunday against the Penguins. Callahan is 106-93-199 in 364 career games; and Stepan is 38-61-99 in 168 career contests.
Maple Leafs: Last season the Maple Leafs ranked next to last in the entire National Hockey League with a team 3.16 goals against average. Through a small smapling of four games so far this season Toronto is allowing an average of three goals per game, a slight improvement over last year but yet good enough to rank in the middle of the pack, sitting tied for 14th overall in the NHL. Certainly coming off the shortened training camps, goal scoring around the league is up, as in many cases team defense has been harder to recapture than offensive success---though the Leafs are slightly bucking that trend.
