Staal Is "Miles Ahead of Last Year"

“ I feel really good, and am miles ahead of last year. I'm excited to get the season started. ”
- Marc Staal
“ We have great depth in this organization, and we showed that last year with all the injuries we had. And that bodes well for this year with the shortened season. ”
- Marc Staal
“ I am not concerned with who is the No. 1 defenseman here. There's a lot of minutes to be spread around, and I think we have to be consistent as a group making sure we do everything we can for Hank to keep the puck out of the net. ”
- Marc Staal

Marc Staal missed the first 36 games of the 2011-12 season due to a concussion, and when he did return to action it was a gradual process for him to get back into top form---something Staal said Tuesday that he believes did not happen until the 2012 Stanley Cup playoffs.

Completely healthy and recovered, and in peek physical condition, Staal has been champing at the bit to get the 2013 season underway. And on Tuesday he discussed how he feels physically, how vital the Rangers depth on defense is, and why it's not important to label either he, Dan Girardi, or Ryan McDonagh as the club's No. 1 defenseman.
