- Ryan Callahan
“ It was real high-tempo today, but it was nice to have the coaches out there on the ice. They had us going real good, but it's just great to be back and have some organization. ”
- Ryan Callahan

The Rangers officially opened up training camp at 12:00 noon Sunday, and for the first time under John Tortorella the team did not spend the first day taking part in on-ice fitness testing. Instead, with a shortened training camp, Torts put the team to work for 90 minutes, much of it used on battle drills.

After the first practice team captain Ryan Callahan met with reporters and discussed his feelings about the start of camp and how the team needs to prepare quickly for the season opener next Saturday in Boston.
