Game 1 Chatter

“ As a goalie you always want to step up when the team is not going so good, and they're having some tough moments. It's fun to be there and try to make a difference when the team is going through a tough stretch. ”
- Henrik Lundqvist
“ It gives you confidence to get that first win. It was a pretty big game for us coming out of that Game 7 (against Washington)to keep our emotions high and our desperation high. ”
- Marc Staal
“ We just had to stay with it (after two periods). You have to give Henrik (Lundqvist) a lot of credit there for keeping us in the game; and then our guys found a way to get a few there in the third (period). ”
- Ryan McDonagh
“ (Chris Kreider) played hard, and he's a young guy who's trying to do everything right for the team. Obviously he's making great plays offensively. Tonight he made a couple big plays for goals, and I think he's playing with some confidence now. ”
- Dan Girardi

Despite an admittedly shaky second period, the Rangers came out in the third period on Monday night and grabbed Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals by the throat and eventually secured a 3-0 victory.

Following the game BlueshirtsUnited.com caught up with Henrik Lundqvist---who earned his fifth career playoff shutout with 21 saves, Marc Staal---who blocked a team-high five shots over 24:55, Ryan McDonagh---who was a stalwart on defense, twice breaking up Devil breakaways in the first period, and Dan Girardi---who scored the game-winning goal and added an assist, to discuss the big win.
