The NHL's Trade Deadline arrived at 3:00 PM Monday afternoon and, despite a flurry of rumors, the Rangers made only one deal, acquiring hulking defenseman John Scott from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for a fifth round selection in the 2012 draft.
Scott, who stands 6-foot-8 and weighs 270 pounds, is the second tallest player in the NHL, just an inch shorter than Boston captain Zdeno Chara. He had appeared in 29 games with the Blackhawks this season, recording one assist and totaling 48 penalty minutes.
Originally an undrafted free agent out of Michigan Tech University, Scott has appeared in 140 NHL games with the Minnesota Wild and Chicago Blackhawks. He has accumulated 231 penalty minutes to go along with one goal and five points in his career.
The 29 year-old Scott will add depth to the Rangers defense corps, a group that remains without Michael Sauer for the forseeable future due to a concussion.
