Michael Sauer has been missing from the Rangers lineup since suffering a concussion on a Dion Phaneuf hit in the December 5th game at The Garden against the Toronto Maple Leafs, but has shown recent signs that he is feeling somewhat better. Sauer accompanied the Rangers to the Winter Classic, and was able to don a jersey to pose in the team photograph at center ice in Citizens Bank Ballpark, and on Wednesday head coach John Tortorella reported that Sauer would work out later in the day on his own under the supervision of the team's training staff. "I know he's had a good week, and I think he's working out today, and that's all I have," explained Tortorella. The coach added that he didn't no what the next steps were for Sauer or what his schedule of working out would be beyond Wednesday. Yet the fact that Sauer is able to at least take this next baby step forward is a good sign for a Rangers team that just got Marc Staal back in the lineup Monday after missing the first 36 games of the season.
