The Winter Classic festivities swung into high gear Saturday afternoon as alumni from the Rangers and Flyers battled it out in front of 45, 808 fans at Citizens Bank Ballpark in Philadelphia. In the end, the Rangers dropped a 3-1 decision in a contest they outshot their hosts by a 34-21 margin. Three Flyers netminders, including 66 year-old starter Bernie Parent---who stopped all six shots he faced in five minutes of action---held the Rangers at bay in the fun-filled nostalgic event. Glenn Anderson, a member of the Rangers 1994 Stanley Cup winning team, scored the only goal for the Blueshirts 12:18 into the second period. He deflected a Darius Kasparaitis shot past goalie Neil Little. Mark Messier also assisted on the goal, which was originally credited to Brian Leetch---who was screening Little in front of the net. Leetch logged a game-high 29:44 worth of ice-time (just like old times), while Mike Gartner led the team with six shots on goal, with Anderson chipping in with five shots. Both Anderson and Nick Kypreos were awarded penalty shots during the game, but were denied by the Flyers goaltenders. Messier won 9 of 11 faceoffs, and Kasparaitis played two periods of the game before having to shower and leave the stadium to catch a flight out of town. John Vanbisbrouck started in goal for the Rangers and allowed goals to John Leclair and Shjon Podein in his one period of play. Dan Blackburn finished the game in net for the Rangers and wa soften spectacular in stopping 15 of 16 shots. Share your thoughts below on Saturday's outdoor alumni game.
