Paul Broten spent four years as a member of the New York Rangers, almost exclusively skating with the same linemates, Darren Turcotte and Kris King. Saturday afternoon at Citizens Bank Ballpark that threesome will be reunited when the Rangers skate against the Flyers in the outdoor alumni game. "It'll be like old times," Broten said on Friday afternoon. "I'll never see the puck! Once Turc gets it, you never get it back. Only chance for me is to never pass him the puck in the first place!" Broten's jovial take on the alumni game, and spending time once again with his former Blueshirts teammates, was the typical sentiment as the Rangers alumni filtered into Philadelphia to take part in the Winter Classic festivities. "It's a priviledge and an honor to come back and be a part of the New York Rangers organization," stated Broten, who wore the Blueshirt from 1989-90 through 1992-93. I think this is a great thing for these two teams, and the NHL, to have this game. It's great for the game, and exciting, and I'm honored to be a part of it." Broten, who coaches part-time in his native Minnesota and also works for the non-profit Dave Thomas Foundation, said that his favorite Rangers-Flyers memory was when he scored against Ron Hextall off an odd-man rush, and as Hextall smashed his stick into several pieces on the ice, Broten told him to "next time, stop guessing so much", which sent the volatile Philly netminder into a further tizzy. Broten finished with the thought that New York would be the next great location for the outdoor Winter Classic.
