Rangers Seek "Killer Instinct"

Rangers head coach John Tortorella has said on different occasions this week that the team views their three-games-in-four-nights stretch against three division rivals as an important "capsule" in which the Blueshirts face major challenges before the two-day holiday break. The Rangers are off to a strong start in this "capsule"---with victories over the Devils and Islanders already secured---and they are looking for a strong finish this evening at The Garden when they host the Flyers, in a battle for first place in the Atlantic Division. "I think sometimes teams get comfortable, thinking they got two of three and that's good, but we want that killer instinct in finishing out this week," explained defenseman Michael Del Zotto, who after scoring a goal Thursday night now has four goals, 17 points, and a +20 rating on the season. "I know it's a big rivalry game, and a good start to get that Winter Classic emotion going, so guys are excited for this game. If we get those two points, they will be so huge for us, and it would be a huge confidence boost heading into the break." Brandon Dubinsky, who notched a goal and added an assist in Thursday's win over the Islanders, added, "It's not just the build-up about the (24/7) show. The build-up is that we are two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference, and there are four points on the line. That's the most important thing. That being said, I think there are going to be two hungry hockey teams and that's what's going to make the excitement and intensity of the Winter Classic."
