The Big Weekend

Heading into this weekend the Rangers---who were 0-1-1 their previous two games---preached repeatedly that the really good teams in the NHL do not let mini two-game skids evolve into longer losing streaks. The Rangers clearly continued to make a case for being a really good team once again this weekend by halting their brief losing skid with a 4-1 victory in Buffalo on Saturday and a resounding 6-1 home-ice win over the Panthers on Sunday, capturing all four available points in the standings. "We have built some good winning streaks---a seven and a five---and I really believe that two is the max you can lose in a row in this NHL because after that you are losing so much ground in the standings," explained Steve Eminger, who scored a goal and posted a +4 plus/minus rating on Sunday. "We have stopped it at two games twice now, and I think that's a big sign of maturity." With 38 points in only 27 games played, the Rangers currently sit in fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings. "It says a lot about our club," noted Derek Stepan following his three-point effort Sunday. "If you can win games after a couple losses, slam the door on it, that's something that shows a lot of maturity, and it's somehting we've got to continue to do."
