In his first season wearing the "C", Rangers captain Ryan Callahan did just about everything for the Blueshirts in 2011-12, leading them to more wins and deeper into the playoffs than any captain since Mark Messier. Callahan, a nominee for this year's Messier Leadership Award, posted career-highs of 29 goals and 54 points this past season, but it was his relentless form of leadership by example that set the tone for a remarkable eight months. Appropriately, he scored the first goal of both the regular season and playoffs as well as the final goal of the postseason run.
