After appearing in all 102 games the Rangers played over the course of the regular season and post season in 2011-12, Marian Gaborik is headed for off-season surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder. The surgery will take place next Wednesday, June the 6th, and will be performed in New York by Dr. Andrew Feldman and Dr. Anothony Maddalo.
Gaborik, the 2012 NHL All Star Game MVP for his three-goal, four-point performance, led the Rangers---and ranked third in the league---with 41 goals this past season, his second 40+-goal campaign in three years wearing the Blueshirt. He also led the team, ranking 15th in the NHL, with 76 points, while playing in a career-high 82 regular season games.
Showing a flair for the dramatic, Gaborik tied a franchise record by scoring three overtime game-winning goals in 2011-12, including ones in the final seconds of the extra period against the Bruins on January 21st up in Boston and on March 11th against the Islanders at The Garden. Nothing topped his triple-overtime game-winner which beat the Capitals 2-1 in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals on May 2nd, however.
No further information regarding how and/or when Gaborik suffered the injury was released by the Rangers. And there is no word as to how long he will be sidelined following the surgery.
