Like the rest of his team, Dan Girardi's game got progressively better as Game One of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Devils wore on Monday night. Eventually Girardi stepped forward by scoring the first goal of the game early in the third period---the eventual game-winner---and added an assist on Chris Kreider's goal in the 3-0 Rangers win, and earned himself the Broadway Hat in the process.
"I thought we had a good start to the third (period), and obviously getting a goal and a 1-0 leads helped," explained Girardi after the game. "I thought we kind of rallied around that."
Girardi logged a team-high 25:11 worth of ice-time, tied for the team-lead with 5 blocked shots, and finished with three shots on goal and three hits despite a somewhat slow start to the game.
"They were doing a good job putting some pressure on us in the first and second (periods) and got some chances, but we were able to do that to them in the third," Girardi said.
