Carly Rae Jepsen — I Really Like You Lexi is a Mary Sue. She was a very spoiled young girl, and got everything she wanted until, one days she crashed her new car into a convince store, and she was punished by her father. The first thing they do when they arrive is tell me not to speak. Her reactions to the occupations she is forced to endure are so accurate and relatable.
I mean what can I say? The well-known socialite was returning from an exclusive Hollywood nightclub where several eyewitnesses claim they saw her drinking heavily with friends before getting behind the wheel. There's a lot of character growth in this book, and with that came some heartfelt moments, bitter sweet ones, heartbreaking ones, and moments that were down right hilarious. Jessica Brody's writing has so much voice, it makes you feel right at home in her character, Lexington Larrabe's, head. That's just fifty-two shades of wrong right there. To make matters worse, Luke, her fathers stuffy intern, had to become her new babysitter. And I got all that, but also much more.
What I do have a problem with is how calculated certain parts of this book felt to me. You should have some alone time with your dad. I ended up really enjoying this book. This one, apparently, in French. All in all, I can only describe this book as fabulous.
Every week of the year, Lexi will get one specific job, making it a whopping 52 jobs total. And heiresses are not supposed to work. My mascara is smudged to oblivion, my hair is flattened against one side of my head, and my eyes are the color of pinot noir, with more bags under them than the bellhop wheeled in on his cart ten minutes ago. But more than that, her father is just way over the top as this stereotypical cold withdrawn unemotional father. There were some additional elements in 52 Reasons to Hate My Father that really helped to add to the story — the speech to text transcripts of the reports Lexi would leave for Luke every few weeks. It was a slow start.
Why would she have to? I was hooked within the first few pages and wanted to stay up late to finish it. Congratulation on the book and movie. The first edition of this novel was published in July 3rd 2012, and was written by Jessica Brody. Luke has a very down-to-earth kind of personality, and I liked him for the most part. So yes, she's not a spoiled brat, but instead, a wonderful girl who grew up not knowing what a true family was, and who just needed a push in the right direction.
They balanced each other out perfectly. Lexington Larrabee is a Paris Hilton type. What I got was just that, and a whole lot more. I protest, struggling to sit upright.
During most of the scenes he's in in the book, he always seemed like some kind of statue to me. With a laugh, I reach out and touch a spirally lock of her short caramel-colored hair. And who knows how long that will take. If she doesn't work, she'll lose everything. The only thing I didn't like about him was how he seemed so dense.
Predictably, Lexi pouts and whines until she learns valuable lessons about work and family from a new friend. Lexi has a really cheerful and good work ethic even when she wants to stab you in the eye and scream her head off at you! Lexington Larrabee has never to work a day in her life. Every week for the next year, she will have to take on a different low-wage job if she ever wants to receive her beloved trust fund. I thought that it was fun and exciting as well as serious.
